When Reagan was wounded by an assassin, kneeling by the bed in his hospital room Tip O’Neil said a prayer for him.

When Trump was wounded Biden and Kamala Harris both called him, offered kind words.

After Rob Reiner was killed Trump belittled him. Unkindness spread. Healing slowed.

Later the same day, asked if he regretted what he’d said Trump, seeing nothing wrong with unkindness, called Reiner deranged.

But, in the end, unkindness comes with a price.
