Roy and Michael
Neither Michael Whatley nor Roy Cooper are setting the news media on fire. But Whatley is all over social media, posting on X every day, several times a day. Cooper posts too but not as often.
In his posts Cooper’s calm, amicable – in one he disagreed with Whatley over tariffs, saying costs are too high – but did it politely. Cooper seldom criticizes Whatley.
Whatley, cut from a different bolt of cloth, enjoys pounding Cooper – on Valentines Day posted, Roses are red, violets are blue. Roy Cooper released robbers, rapists, and murderers too.
That’s not unusual today – but it could backfire on Whatley.
People know Cooper. They’ve known him for years. They elected him Governor twice in elections when Trump won in North Carolina. Would people like Cooper if they believed he coddled murderers?
These days a lot of politicians think they can just say things on social media and people will believe ‘em – but that’s not the case. Whatley needs to lay the facts on the table and prove Cooper coddled murderers.
But he’s not doing that. In one post he said in 2021 Cooper released DeCarlos Brown from prison – and that led to Brown killing Iryna Zarutska on a train in Charlotte.
The media quickly pointed out Cooper didn’t release Brown in 2021 – that Brown was released from prison a year earlier, after serving time in jail for robbery.
Unfortunately for Whatley that means the next time he says something people won’t believe him.
Internet pundits don’t have to cross their ‘t’s’ and dot their ‘i’s’ when they post on ‘X.’ They can say almost anything they want and their followers cheer. But in an election a candidate has to level with people. If he doesn’t the ‘chickens fly home to roost.’
